Meet the Trainers
Heather Brown (owner):
My name is Heather Brown, I’ve been training dogs for over 25 years. I compete with my own dogs in many venues (conformation, rally, obedience, earthdog, barn hunt, fast cat, agility to name a few) I also continue to take seminars and classes to expand my knowledge. I help with Union County’s 4h dog program for the last 20 plus years, as well as serving on the Union County 4h Advisory Council. A member of the Border Terrier Club of America and have been on several of the speciality committees and a member of The Border Terrier Club of Central Ohio, currently I serve the position of Treasurer. I also co-write training articles for the local Pet Partners newsletter. I have recently opened up a training location in Marysville where I hold many different types of classes, seminars and private lessons. I will also do in home consults. I am a CGC, AKC star puppy and Trick dog evaluator, AKC temperament test Judge and Fetc Judge, Farm Test Judge, AKC Junior Showmanship Judge, Certified Canine Fitness Instructor, as well as a Judges Mentor for the Border Terrier.

Annette Neff: Pet Behavior Associates
About Annette Neff
I have owned and operated Pet Behavior Associates since 1985. I have a Master of Science degree in education and over 30 years of classroom experience. I have 90 graduate credits beyond the Masters’ in the areas of education and psychology.
My graduate work at The Ohio State University had its emphasis in human and animal learning, animal behavior, and comparative psychology. Upon entering the field, I completed a three-year internship in an animal behavioral clinic under the direction of David Tuber, PhD.
I have been training dogs in the Central Ohio area since 1982. I was the first in the area to offer puppy classes and to train dogs using positive reinforcement. I have earned multiple AKC titles on several different breeds in obedience, rally, conformation, agility, and earthdog. I breed Border Terriers and have raised and trained terriers for many years. I am an AKC Earthdog judge. I was active in Border Terrier rescue for 20 years. I served on the Board of the Border Terrier Club of America (BTCA) and the Border Terrier Club of Central Ohio (BTCCO).
I have written articles and offer seminars and workshops on dog training and behavior.
As a retired teacher with 30 years in the classroom, I bring a unique combination of skills and experience to the dog training and behavioral consultation field.

Michelle Jewell:
I started training dogs in 4H when I was 8 years old. Training dogs has been my hobby ever since. I have shown many dogs in AKC events, including showmanship (conformation), obedience, rally and agility, as well as having titled many dogs in these events. I enjoy working with other people to train their dogs and see them accomplish their goals. I look forward to working with you!

Dylan Kyle
I have been training dogs since the early spring of 2020. We’ve always had dogs growing up (miniature poodle, black lab, and a pit-mix). I was 4-H with chickens and rabbits as a kid. I bred and raised rabbits for over 6 years and traveled to many places showing the rabbits and in 2019 I decided I wanted my own personal dog so I got a Standard Poodle and that’s when things changed. I was head over heals with an elegant puppy being 19 at the time I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. I did my research and tried my best and had a trainer come into my apartment at the time but it just wasn’t working and that’s when I contacted Shagbark Dog Training. I got took my first beginner class with Michelle and was instantly hooked! I took a few more classes and Dunkin and I built an amazing relationship and became more and more confident. Michelle introduced us to Rally and Obedience and we where hooked and she took me under her wing and introduced me to Heather, Annette, and a ton of amazing people. I was eager to learn and help and Michelle and Heather even let me shadow some of there classes for when the right moment comes along and I’m ready to teach my own classes. Fast forward 3 years later Dunkin and I have competed in numerous Rally and Obedience trials of course side by side with with Michelle and her dogs, dabbled in agility, we are pursuing scent work, running in FastCat, and even brought another dog into our lives a cute little spunky Sheltie puppy. I can’t thank Heather, Michelle, and Annette enough for the things they’ve taught me. Having a well behaved happy dog makes the world go round weather you want to get into sports or just want well behaved companion Shagbark Dog Training will go above and beyond to help you! I’m excited to learn and grow with you and your dogs in whatever journey you decide in.
